About The Specialized Tutor
Built for the Students Who Need More Than a Tutor
We don't just teach — we advocate, align, and partner with families to make sure every child's unique needs are truly met.
Our Story
Why We Started
The Specialized Tutor was founded out of a simple but urgent observation: too many students with IEPs were receiving tutoring that had nothing to do with their actual learning plans. Tutors were working hard, parents were investing time and money, and yet the goals written into the IEP — the legal document meant to guide every aspect of a child's education — were being completely ignored.
We built The Specialized Tutor to close that gap. Every session we deliver is grounded in the student's IEP, aligned to their school goals, and designed around their specific learning profile. We work with students who have ADHD, learning disabilities, behaviour challenges, and executive functioning difficulties — and we work just as closely with their families.
Because when a child has the right support — support that actually fits who they are — everything changes.
Our Mission
"To empower neurodiverse learners through IEP-aligned tutoring and advocacy that honours how they learn, build genuine confidence, and give families the partnership they deserve."
How We Work
Our Approach
Every session starts with the IEP. We read it, understand it, and build our entire approach around the goals and accommodations already in place for your child.
IEP-First Planning
Every session starts with the IEP. We read it, understand it, and build our entire approach around the goals and accommodations already in place for your child.
Strengths-Based Learning
We focus on what students can do, and use those strengths as the foundation for building new skills — so learning feels achievable, not overwhelming.
Family as Partners
Parents and caregivers are essential members of the team. We keep you informed, involved, and equipped to advocate for your child at every step.
What We Stand For
Our Core Values
Advocacy
Every child deserves an advocate. We show up for students and families — in sessions, at school meetings, and in every conversation with the school team.
Alignment
We don't work in isolation. Everything we do is connected to the IEP, the school team, and the goals that matter most for each student.
Inclusion
We meet every child with patience, warmth, and genuine care.
Compassion
We hold ourselves to a high standard, because your child deserves nothing less than our very best.
Accountability
We track progress, communicate clearly, and hold ourselves to the highest standard of care and professionalism.
Empowerment
Our goal is always to build independence — in students who can advocate for themselves, and in families who feel confident navigating the system.
